Safe Parking Program
How does the program work?
- The program offers secure parking spaces, at a confidential location, where homeless individuals and families living in their vehicles can sleep safely, reducing the risks of harassment, theft, or being ticketed/towed.
- It operates overnight, from 7:00 pm to 9:00 am with rules to ensure safety and minimize any disruptions to the neighborhood.
- There is a locked port-a-potty and trash receptacles onsite.
- Applicants are interviewed to see if they agree with our code of conduct.
- Guests are checked in and out by trained volunteers, and offered drinks and snacks.
- Guests are referred to professional case management services at Turning Point (or other providers) who will help them seek and find housing, healthcare, and other resources to assist them in moving beyond homelessness.
- Based on the success of our pilot program the City of Davis created an ordinance to allow for safe parking. We have a City Permit.
- This is a volunteer-operated program. We are looking for evening check-in volunteers, 6:50-8:00 pm, and morning check-out volunteers, 7:50-9:00 am, every day.
- If you are interested in participating or assisting as a volunteer, please fill out our Contact Form or call 530-702-1432 or email info@heartofdavis.org
